A book is a product that requires planning, i.e. defining characteristics before production. The production process includes stages from the preparation of raw materials, design, graphic preparation and printing, to final finishing.
 
Birograf offers all types of book finishing, including paperback, hardcover, spiral bound and decorated. With additional options such as UV coating and lamination, the books are ready for distribution and sale.

Technical specifications that need to be defined before printing the book

  • Format books - dimensions of the finished product (eg A5, B5, A4, B4).
  • Select type and features paper  type (matte, glossy, art paper), grammage and thickness, as well as physical and chemical properties relevant to printing.
  • Type bandage - choosing between a soft (glued or sewn) or hard cover, including possible accessories such as flaps or an envelope.
  • Color prints - Black and white, full color, pantone with the definition of possible special effects (metallization, varnishing, foil).
  • Define Circulation – the total number of copies, which affects the technical and economic aspects of production.

Types of bindings we offer

Paperback with glue is a method of binding books where the leaves and covers are joined together using glue. This method of binding allows flexibility, economical price and suitability for different book formats.

Soft binding with sewing is a method of binding books in which the pages are joined by sewing and then the covers are bound using glue. This method of binding allows flexibility, economical price and suitability for different book formats.

Paperback with flaps is a type of book binding where the covers have additional flaps on the inside edges known as flaps. These flaps have multiple functions:
  • Aesthetics: Flaps give the book a more sophisticated and attractive look, making it more visually attractive to readers.
  • Practicality: Flaps can be used as markers for pages that the reader wants to remember. 
  • Information: Information about the author, a short description of the book or promotional materials are usually printed on the inside of the flap.

Swiss book binding is an elegant and specific way of book binding where the book block (the inner part of the book) is attached to the cover only on the back side, while the spine of the book remains free. This design allows easy and flexible scrolling, providing a special pleasure when reading. 
 
The covers are usually hard or semi-hard, while the spine remains visible, revealing the gluing or stitching of the book block, which gives the book a minimalistic and aesthetic look.

 Integral binding is often used for more luxurious or high-quality publications such as catalogs, monographs and fiction.
Integral binding with flaps is a specific type of integral binding in which flaps, i.e. folding parts, are added to the front and back covers. Flaps serve as protection and additional decoration, but also as a practical element, because they can contain additional information, such as short descriptions, biographies of the authors, or even pictures.
 
This type of binding combines the advantages of integral binding (which is flexible and durable) and the functionality of flaps, which gives the books a more sophisticated look and adds visual value to them. Integral flap binding is often used for books that want to leave a luxurious impression, such as monographs, catalogs, deluxe editions, or books with a rich design.

Hardcover with or without envelope is a type of hardcover book where the covers are covered with paper, canvas, leather or similar material. At the ends of the cover there is a fold, ie. the flap covering the inside of the cover. This cover can be simple or decorative, and its basic function is to provide additional protection and strength of the book, as well as to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

This type of binding gives books a luxurious and professional look and is often used for luxury editions, monographs, fiction and other high-quality publications. The insert may also contain additional information such as design, publisher's logo or other graphic elements.

Staple binding is a binding method in which leaves and covers are joined with metal staples. This method allows fast, simple and economical binding, especially suitable for smaller formats and brochures.
